1. Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas
Petit Jean is filled with rich beauty and history. Today it includes over 20 miles of interconnecting trails, and 126 different campsites. With an incredible view in front of you ( the Arkansas river and petit jean mountains) you have everything you need for a perfectly relaxing and exhilarating family vacation.
2. Desoto State Park, Alabama
Desoto State Park is a little known nature haven. It is home to pine and hardwood forests and has over 900 different species of flowers spread elegantly through out the park. In addition to this you will come across mountain streams and beautiful waterfalls. There are 78 camping sites available to the park visitors.
3. Big Basin Redwood State Park, California
Big Basin is hoe to the oldest and largest continuous stand of coastal redwoods. The parks 9 mile stretch is filled with 80 miles of windy trails and is combined with sparkling waterfalls and an array of wildlife. Each of the 146 campsites offer you an old fashioned camping feel. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and wooden food bin. Some site are tent only, but most are RV accessible.
4. Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware
Cape Henlopen has something for everyone. With hiking trails, camping sites, biking routes and beaches, there is no question everyone will enjoy there time at Cape Henlopen.
5. Paynes- Prairie Preserve State Park, Florida
Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, a 21,000-acre habitat showcasing more than a dozen biological communities, including wet prairie, pine and swamp. The land is home to more than 800 species of plants, 430 species of animals and 271 species of birds. Alligators, hawks and turtles are common animals found roaming the preserve. Paynes Prairie, is Florida's first state preserve and is now a National Natural Landmark. If you are looking for some fun family activities there are many. Bicycling on numerous park trails, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, horseback riding and a wide array of nature trails from easy hikess to 4-mile walks. Full facility camping is available from walk-in tent sites to RVs up to 40 feet.
6. Cheney State Park, Kansas
If you like windsurfing or sailing, then Cheney State Park is the Place for you. The Cheney Reservoir has been named one of the windiest lakes in the country. In addition to these water activities there is also campsites and trails for you to hike.
7. Mount Greylock State Reservation, Massachusetts
Mount Greylock is Massachusetts first state park. At the mountains highest point you can see a panoramic view of four states, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and New Hampshire. There are an extensive 70 miles you can hike while visiting Mount Greylock. There are over 100 species of birds who call Mount Greylock home. There are 35 campsites located at the Reservation.
8. Blue Mounds State Park, Minnesota
Blue Mounds state park can be found 35 miles east of Sioux Falls. Fishing, swimming, rock climbing and bird watching are some of the main activities offered at the park. There are 73 seasonal campsites offered to the park visitors.
9. Sugarite Canyon State Park, New Mexico
Sugarite Canyon is situated right on the Colorado/ New Mexico state line. It consists of 400 acres of oak and ponderosa pine forest. Mule deer, turkeys, black bear, elk, red-tailed hawks, blue jays and a variety of butterflies are just some of the many common sightings when you visit Sugarite Canyon. Many biologists have named the Sugarite Canyon area as one of the best places to spot a wide diversity of butterflies in their natural habitat. Nature lovers, Sugarite Canyon is the place for you to visit.
10. Ohiopyle Sate Park, Pennsylvania
The Ohiopyle State Parks main attraction is a 20 foot waterfall. You can add some excitement to your visit by taking a kayaking trip. There are 226 camping sites available and 4 play areas for children.
