Hialeah Reads! Literacy Program

Hialeah Reads! is a comprehensive family literacy plan. The program includes "The Reading Connection," which provides an opportunity to get families -- both children and parents -- involved in a lifetime love of reading. This component includes a number of services that build on families' strengths and provide the tools and support for parents to take a more active role in their children's education. Once a week, parents work in small groups, learning creative strategies to use at home to help their school-aged children improve their reading skills. At the same time, their children receive small group reading instruction by a tutor trained in the America Reads tutorial method. Afterwards, parents and children rejoin one another to participate in a Family Reading Circle where they share in a read-aloud, as well as take part in fun, story related activities.
