The goal of the Teen Peer-to-Peer Education Program is to reduce the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. The program is designed as an early intervention model for at-risk youth before they begin engaging in high risk-taking behaviors. The program employs four program methodologies to achieve these goals: delayed onset of sexual activity; increased communication about sexuality with peers, parents and other trusted adults; increased knowledge of sexuality, reproduction, contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases; and increased use of contraceptives among those who are sexually active. The program promotes sexual responsibility, increases teens’ interpersonal skills, and provides accurate and age-appropriate information about sex, sexual health and risk reduction.
